Your ability to get work done is at its highest at this time, so make sure you take advantage of these golden moments for maximum productivity.
As the day progresses, you will find that both psychological and physiological fatigue increases resulting in a decrease in self-control. Your self-control and willpower are power charged just after a good night’s sleep – a fact that is supported by science. Studies on self-control have revealed that humans have a finite amount of self-control.
There are many benefits to waking up early. Here are five morning rituals you can incorporate into your day to boost your health and your productivity:
1. Rise Early
The first step to getting up early is sleeping early. Waking up early takes more than just willpower to battle the alarm clock. Your body needs enough sleep and rest for it to be rejuvenated and ready to tackle the day.
If you get into a practice of sleeping early, you will find that your body knows when it has had enough rest and you will be able to naturally wake up early in the morning.
But don’t jump straight into work after you wake up.
2. “Me” Time
You can meditate or indulge in a hobby. The power of meditation is unbelievable and its benefits are numerous.
Meditation improves self-awareness and concentration, reduces stress, increases acceptance and happiness, and even slows aging. Sit and pray, do yoga, or just read a book, whatever that makes you feel at peace with yourself.
3. Exercise
If you schedule it for a later part of the day, it probably isn’t going to happen – so best to get it done and over with as early as possible.
Exercise releases endorphins which can decrease stress, thus allowing you to start your day rejuvenated, energetic, and with a clear mind. Yoga is great for an early morning workout. You can keep it as simple as a walk or if you feel up to it – go in for the high-intensity workouts.
4. Have a Healthy Breakfast
You already know that breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. Not only does it give you the energy to start a new day, but breakfast is linked to many health benefits, including weight control and improved performance.
People who eat breakfast perform mentally and physically better in the office, with better concentration, problem-solving skills, and hand-eye coordination. Check out these simple and easy breakfast recipes.
5. Plan and Prioritize
Sets aside 10 minutes in the morning to organize your day. Make a to-do list and prioritize three things you wish to accomplish that day.
Start off with the hardest task when you have the most energy and willpower, rather than putting it for later as you may get mentally and physically depleted as time passes. When such tasks are done right away, you don’t have to dread them for the rest of the day.
